The project “My Ideal Library” involved all Middle School students, and was coordinated by the Middle School French teacher and the teacher-librarian.
The project included many stages:
1- Discovering their reader profiles
All students began by answering a questionnaire to better identify their reading interests among the following: initiatory journey, adventure, documentary, suspense and detective investigation, fantasy.
2- Reading a book according to their profile
3- Creating comic strips, BookTubes, playlists and literary reviews based on books read
Each class worked on different media:
Grade 6 students imagined comic strips inspired by their books.
In Grade 7, they created BookTubes, videos in which they give a literary review.
Grade 8s created music playlists inspired by their readings.
In Grade 9, they wrote literary reviews.
4- Creating a padlet to share their reader profiles and favorite books… or less favorite ones!
Grade 6 students created a padlet (platform) on which they shared their favorite books and their reader profiles. Other Grade 6-9 students were invited to leave comments and reading tips.
5- And to conclude: an exhibition!
The students’ ideal library is on display throughout March at school. Everyone can read the comic strips and literary reviews.
Some students presented the project to the Elementary students, who had the opportunity to discover the padlet, videos and playlists though QR codes.
This project was a wonderful way to share the joy of reading and inspire new readers!
