A Community-Driven School Built on Dedication and Passion

Cousteau School operates as a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing high-quality bilingual education. Governed independently, the school ensures accountability, strategic leadership, and alignment with its mission and values.

A non-profit school

Cousteau School is a non-profit organization established under the legal framework of 1997. As an independent school, it is not part of the Conseil scolaire francophone or the North Vancouver School District. However, it is fully accredited by both the British Columbia Ministry of Education and the French Ministry of Education, ensuring compliance with their rigorous standards.

Independent Governance

Our school is governed by a Board of Directors, composed of volunteer parents elected during the Annual General Meeting. These dedicated individuals bring their expertise and passion to support the school’s mission. The Board members receive no financial compensation for their service.

The governance model follows the principles of good governance outlined by the Association of Independent Schools of British Columbia (AISBC). These guidelines ensure transparency, accountability, and ethical management.

The Role of the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is responsible for the strategic oversight and long-term success of Cousteau School. Their key responsibilities include:

– Ensuring the financial stability of the school

– Providing pro bono expertise and resources to the school (e.g. finance, marketing, legal, etc.)
