After School Sports Program

Cousteau’s after-school sports program at Cousteau offers a diverse range of activities designed to engage students of all skill levels and interests. From team sports such as soccerbasketball, and volleyball to individual pursuits including karate and tennis & Badminton, there’s something for everyone. Younger students can also join Sportball, which introduces a variety of sports in a fun and supportive environment, while those seeking mindfulness and flexibility can participate in yoga. These programs help students build physical fitness, develop teamwork, pursue their passion in sports and foster personal growth outside the classroom.

BC School Sports

Cousteau Athletics proudly supports our Grade 8 and 9 students in participating in BC School Sports competitions. These events provide an exciting opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills, compete against other schools, and experience the thrill of teamwork and sportsmanship. Through various sports, including soccer, cross country, and track and field, our students develop resilience, discipline, and a strong sense of community. We encourage all athletes to embrace this chance for personal growth, build lasting friendships, and represent Cousteau with pride on the competitive stage.

Physical Education & Special Events

At Cousteau, Physical Education (PE) is a core part of our curriculum, designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and personal growth. We offer tailored programs for each grade level, including activities like bikingsailing, and climbing, ensuring students engage in a variety of sports that challenge them both physically and mentally. In addition to regular PE classes, we enhance the learning experience with sports field trips such as snowshoeingsurfing, and kayaking, providing students with opportunities to explore nature while developing key life skills.

To further our commitment to physical activity and community engagement, Cousteau organizes a variety of special events. Our annual Terry Fox Run raises funds for cancer research and inspires students to stay active while contributing to a meaningful cause. The GreenTrail combines outdoor adventure with environmental awareness, encouraging students to connect with nature, while the Cousteau Sun Run team fosters teamwork and endurance in a community-oriented race. We also host a Sports Week or Olympic Week, dedicated to celebrating athletic achievement and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.

Our Logo

The whale was chosen by the students as the symbol for Cousteau Athletics to honor the legacy of Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his dedication to marine life. Whales, much like our athletes, embody strength, power, and courage. They also represent empathy, with their deep sense of community and connection to the world around them. This makes the whale the perfect emblem for Cousteau Athletics, reflecting both the values we instill in our students and the spirit of our school’s namesake.
