Volunteers make our school great! Parent volunteers play an essential role in organizing and supporting many school activities, including fundraising and social events, hot lunch, sports day, and field trips
We know families are busy and finding time to volunteer is challenging. We have many opportunities to volunteer throughout the year that can fit all schedules, with time commitments varying from just a few hours to ongoing responsibilities. A little bit of time goes a long way to helping to create great opportunities for our children and our school.

We have many fundraising activities and events throughout the year to foster community and connection among Cousteau families, and to raise awareness and funds for school programs. These include Terry Fox Run, Spirit Wear sales, Art Cards for Kids, Book Fair, etc.
These parent volunteers liaise with vendors to choose product, determine pricing, keep track of the inventory, and organize the sale of merchandise. Sales typically occur at the Welcome Back Café, and school events such as the Winter Concert, Talent Show, and School Fair/La Kermesse.
Hot Lunch Program
The Hot Lunch coordinators oversee vendor selection, menu, pricing, schedule, administration of the online ordering system and communication with parents and volunteers. Lunches offered must meet the guidelines outlined in the BC Ministry of Education code.
Social and Community Events
Be a part of the social committee and help plan fun and exciting events for our community. The social committee helps to plan and assist with events throughout the year including Welcome Back Family Social, Staff Appreciation events, Parents Night Out, Family Fun Night (e.g., Whitecaps game), Movie nights, Sports Day.
Join the team of parents who create a fun and engaging environment at school by decorating the halls for various holidays and special occasions.
OTHER VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
Committee members welcome new families to the school throughout the year. Members assist with questions and help families integrate into the school and community.
Home and Special Skill Opportunities
If you cannot make it to school and would like to help out there are plenty of opportunities such as writing, graphic design, website design, social media, photography, marketing/PR and Translation.
The Class Representatives act as liaisons between the teacher and the parents in a particular class. Representatives assist teachers with coordination of special events, and activities.
Parent Education Coordinator
In partnership with the school Administration, this person will research, plan and organise parent education evenings and workshops.
This person will help to make sure that we as a PAC follow our eco-school commitment by ensuring that we are making environmentally conscious decisions all of the time. Special events such as Beach Clean Up days are organised.
Representatives are needed to ensure the school’s supplies are regularly checked and updated. These volunteers take inventory at least one time annually and help to purge perishable items and purchase any items needed to keep our supplies current within BC guidelines.
The library needs parent volunteers who can assist the librarian on a regular basis. Library assistants perform duties such as checking in books, shelving and filing. Periodically help is needed to complete specific tasks such as taking inventory or bar coding or covering books. This is an ongoing activity throughout the school year and a great way to help keep the library fresh and welcoming.
Lost and Found
Volunteers help to ensure that our lost and found area does not overflow. On a monthly basis, they return labeled items to students and to put items without labels on display. Quarterly, they organize the donation of any items that have not been claimed.
We are looking for gardening enthusiasts, to help improve, beautify and maintain the school grounds. This committee liaisons with the school principal to determine the garden plan for the school year. Children are also encouraged to work with the volunteers to build pride and joy in the gardens they get to enjoy every day.
