Provincial measles immunization campaign for school age children from April to June 2019

In response to the recent increase in measles cases in British Columbia, as well as outbreaks elsewhere in the world, the BC Government has launched a provincial measles immunization campaign to increase protection among school age children throughout the province.

The campaign will run from April through June 2019. Two doses of the measles containing vaccine, MMR, is over 99% effective in preventing measles. Based on Vancouver Coastal records, the majority of school age children (83%) are already fully protected.

Vancouver Coastal will be contacting students whose immunization records are incomplete or need a dose of vaccine. We recommend that all parents ensure their children are protected with two doses of measles vaccine. Information about this campaign is available at www.vch.ca/measlescampaign.

Families are also welcome to contact their school public health nurse.
